About Veronica Huacuja

Veronica Huacuja Welcome! My name is Veronica Huacuja (wu-a-koo-ha), I am a professional plastic artist and an experienced online art teacher. (1) On this platform, you will find a diverse collection of my artistic creations and a glimpse into my creative process. Besides browsing my portfolio, you can also purchase my artwork. To stay updated on my latest projects and techniques, be sure to follow me on my Patreon, TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channel. ART INTERESTS My art aims to depict the complexities and ambiguities of life through the use of metaphor and poetry, encouraging self-reflection and deeper understanding for those who take the time to look at it. The art topics that interests me are diverse, such as sickness, pathological behaviour, forensics. Because of the different subjects I'm interested in, I've classified my work in collections. This helps me understand it in a better way. It also helps the re-creator to understand it, to invite or produce in him or her a state of mind that assists them in penetrating the work's creation circle. One thing I never do is "shut" the speech with my explanation or version of the work. I try hard to make art that, as Umberto Eco refers to in his oeuvre, The Open Work, has polysemy or different interpretations made by the observers. So, I only point in a direction without defining a destiny. That journey has to be made by the re-creator. COLLECTIONS In my "Portraits" collection, I work with special characters in borderline situations. This means that the pieces are dramatic and in most of them I try to grasp their “exasperated beauty”. (2) These criteria apply as well to a new collection I entitled "Women", in which I interpret and portray historical females; some renowned characters, others anonymous, but all of their biographies called my attention as an artist and as a woman. I treat most of these creations with drama. In my "Art and Radiology collection"–Period I and Period II–, the man and its precarious condition (temporality, decay, fragility...) is the central topic of my work. The initial sources I use are radiological medical studies done to sick, genderless, anonymous people. I like to call the results of my work as “Human Landscapes”. By this category, I mean to explore the carnal material that makes us human. I've divided this collection into two periods of my production: “Period I” goes from 2000 to 2003, and “Period II” gathers artwork I have created from 2015 up to date. I added a new collection, "The Relentless", where I picture people that have social malfunctions and disorders that drive them to commit crime. The tragedy of their lives and their cross paths in the lives of others are elements that impulse me to create this series. In this collection I include as well, the “manhunters”, which are the law enforcement professionals that pursue these dangerous outlaws. I think they are too relentless. So, those who fight “monsters” are also part of this collection. One thing I’d like to add is that my work isn’t an apology for crime. It’s my interpretation of a social phenomenon. ART INFLUENCES My artistic influences are from many Latin American, American and European painters, sculptures, filmmakers, etc. of all times. My work has a powerful influence from Francis Bacon artist’s oeuvre. PICTORICAL CURRENTS The pictorial currents of my work are figurative and semi-abstract. MEDIUMS, SIZES PAINTINGS with traditional techniques. The mediums of my choice are mostly oil, acrylic on canvas or paper. The formats I use vary from letter size (8 by 11 inches) to 70 square inches (or so). I add another medium which I like very much to work with: digital art. DIGITAL ART. As I've mentioned, I use digital techniques to make up 2D artwork. SCULPTURES. The medium I'm working on my sculptures is resin which I paint with oil paintings.
